About the job
The before photo shows the old deck: dark brown timber with a handrail along the front, a corner platform beside the hydrangea, and paving slabs below with moss in the joints.
The frame photo shows the next stage. A grid of timber joists is laid out beside the old paving, with the tall posts already standing in the frame. Those posts are what the handrails are fixed to later.
The finished deck is fresh timber boards with a spindle balustrade along the front and a handrail round the corner platform. A gate with a curved top is set into the front of the deck, below the boards.
This is an example job from our recent work. The place, month and customer are not shown.

FAQ
Questions about this job
What is a joist frame?
The timber grid under a deck. The boards are fixed across it, so it carries the weight and sets the level of the deck.
What is a spindle balustrade?
A handrail with upright timber spindles between the posts, so there are no large gaps along the edge of a raised deck.
